How did you get involved in STEM?

Although I may not currently work in STEM, in college I did neuroscience research studying memory loss diseases (CIMA LSAMP) and participated in a NASA program characterizing ice on Mars. I also worked for an NSF grant (CIMA LSAMP at the Alamo Colleges) and I mentored community college STEM students. Through that job, it gave me the opportunity to present my research at various conferences and connect with some pretty amazing people.

Why did you join Reinvented Magazine?

I joined Reinvented Magazine because I wanted to connect with other women in STEM and empower young women that they belong in the STEM space.

Who is your favorite female STEM role model?

As silly as this may sound, my interest in STEM peaked when Big Bang Theory came out and Amy Farrah Fowler was introduced on the show. It got me really interested in the brain and neuroscience. After some research, and finding out that the actress who plays her (Mayim Bialik) actually has a Ph.D. in neuroscience I was completely convinced that was exactly what I wanted to study and so I did!

Do you have any hobbies outside of Reinvented?

Outside of Reinvented, I love to play video games with my husband, bake, and currently, I'm learning how to propagate various plants.

What is your favorite quote?

“May the flowers remind us while the rain was so necessary." - Xan Oku

For a very long time, I thought I was supposed to be on this linear path and quickly realized that life doesn't always happen that way, but I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be.
